The Value Technique
Using the value technique can disarm misbehaving students.
Begin the counselling session with a series of questions: “John, do you know how much I value your being in class?” or “Do you know how much I want you to achieve?”
Don’t be surprised if the student says “No” or “How could you, with all the trouble I cause?”
Then, keep the “valued student” approach in motion throughout the counselling session, and you may reach the student very quickly because of the importance most students place on relationships
